The Middleburgh Telephone Company (MIDCO) has been serving Schoharie and parts of Albany Counties for more than 110 years. As the oldest of New York State's independent telephone companies, MIDCO provides local and long distance telephone service, cable and internet services to the 7,000 customers in its service area.
As part of MIDCO's innovative services, cable customers can take advantage of watchTVeverywhere by logging into the website on a computer, laptop or mobile device with a MIDCO account number, the name on the account and a password.
In addition to the services provided by MIDCO, subsidiary MIDTEL is bringing fiber optic based broadband services to rural customers with the help of two grants from the New NY Broadband Program.
The Phase 1 grant awarded to MIDTEL in 2016 provided $5.5 million to help expand and install broadband services to 1,650 underserved customers in Blenheim, Broome, Conesville, Fulton, Gilboa and Rensselaerville. The deployment of the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) began in 2016.
The second $6.8 million grant will add another 1,600 customers from Blenheim, Broome, Carlisle, Cobleskill, Conesville, Fulton, Gilboa, Jefferson, Middleburgh, Richmondville, Schoharie, Summit and Wright to the MIDTEL fiber optic system. To check fiber availability, click here.
